[DO NOT MERGE] prototype changes to run hivemind with prunning

- strange locks with notifications, looks like a real random problem
  I removed calling the notification code to avoid the locks, but it
  must be investigated deeper, maybe prunning shows only the problem
  which normally is hard to reproduce
- other things required only to run on prunned haf
