Even though some of the tools indicated here are OK, in terms of screen readers, NVDA has gain a lot of market during last years. It is free (in comparison with Jaws and its 1k ish license), it is stable and works very good. It works with popular browsers like Firefox and IE.

I also suggested another tool called WAVE. It is very popular since also provides contrast ratio checker.
