Meta: Support for exploratory discussions

In this flow, the discussion will typically begin with a document describing the purpose of the discussion. This document will have two purposes:

  • it invites the creation of follow-on documents, definitions, and propositions
  • it serves as an initial “context” for these subsequent objects.

Here’s a typical sequence of events:

  1. One or more people create the initial document describing the topic to be explored.
  2. Depending on the content of this document, propositions and sub-documents (e.g. questions) will be extracted from the document and attached to it.
  3. Propositions and documents containing entirely new material will also likely be attached to the initial document.
  4. From this point on, the tree of information around this discussion will grow as the discussion progresses.

If the discussion is about potential courses of action for the community to take, there might be action propositions which need to be highlighted for voting purposes.

Even if the discussion is purely academic in nature, it might be useful to collect together some portions of the tree to display in a concise form, to highlight the findings of the discussion in an easily locatable fashion.
